Haley B's Final Reflection

What did you get out of this class? Will you use tech in your classes? How will you use tech in your classes? How has this class changed the way you think about teaching? About technology?

-I got a lot out of the this IP&T class. It was fun to be in a class like this with all of the people I'm with like everyday. My favorite part of the class was how close the class became as a whole over the course of the semester. I learned a lot about new technology that is out today that can be used to advance teaching. Things such as the google website, making movies, and Studiocode will most likely come in handy later on. The google site is a cool idea to use because now days students like to be able to go online to find answers to any questions they may have about a class. I loved the section when we made our PSA videos because I really like editing movies, so that was a fun thing to do for me. I think that I will use technology when I teach. Technology is a huge part of everyone's everyday life so I think it would be best if I do use it when I teach. I think this class just made my view of the value of technology even stronger. I think it's important for people to use technology because it's not going away. Everyone should know what they're doing on a computer.

Haley B and My Final Studiocode Post

What did I learn about my management? I realized that although the students I had in this lesson were pretty good, it would have been good to have a whistle to use for my signals. I think it would have been good to go over the importance of following the signals I gave. I used signals a lot, which was good and kept students in order. I used good transitions throughout the lesson. I felt like things moved along smoothly and the students understood why we were doing each thing like stretching and a warm up activity. In this activity there was not a huge need for very many formations, but the formations that I used were good and I was happy with the way the formations looked. Overall, I think that my management of this class went well. There were times when kids were off task and I did not realize which can be improved on.

What did I learn about my class instruction? Equipment collection went really well. I made it clear what the students needed to do and almost all of the students did it right away. There was one student that played with his dot for a bit before he put it down, so before having them pick up the equipment it would have been good to make sure they knew not to mess around with any of it. I give good individual feedback, but I usually only say "good job." That would be something to improve. I am also disappointed that I did not give very much positive feedback to the class as a whole, and didn't give feedback to students who needed help with the dance moves. I think I did the best on going over rules. I made sure they knew what they needed to do, I could have stressed the importance of some rules more, but overall I did well with that.

Improvement. I need to make sure to always have a whistle with me. It helps a lot because the children can hear it easier and they are most likely used to responding to a whistle. I also need to make sure students know not to play with the equipment as they are collecting it. Along with that, I need to make sure that I say when before what so they don't start moving and doing things before I say go. That would create less chaos. I can also make sure that the students know how important the rules are and the importance of following them. The thing I need to work on most is feedback. I need to give more and more of a variety of feedback. Those are a few things that I saw that I need to work on.

Haley B Struggling with Studiocode

This past week we've been working on studiocode. What, may you ask, is studiocode? I had no idea that it even existed before this assignment. I finally sat down today and did the assignment, and found that it wasn't as difficult as it could have been. It was nice to have that little packet that basically told me what to do. When I had a little spot when that sheet didn't really do it for me/help me, I was able to figure out how to do it on my own. Overall it wasn't too bad, I just thought it was annoying that I had to evaluate myself again when I do it every week.
Ohhhhh well.

Haley B and Web 2.0!

Q of the week: Were there any Web 2.0 tools that we talked about today that you feel would help further education? How might you use them in your teaching? Also, how might Facebook be utilized in education?

The only Web 2.0 tool that I can remember from class that benefits/helps further education in Wikipedia. I know Wikipedia can possibly have false information at times, but for the most part it is really useful. When people want to learn or know something they can just get on Wikipedia and find information about it. There hasn't ever been a time when I went to Wikipedia and found nothing on the subject I was searching. Also, I don't just used Wikipedia for school, there have been times when I just was curious and read about something of interest on Wikipedia. It's very useful for education people doing school work or helping answer questions.

Facebook can be utilized to help people be aware of different learning opportunities through the "events" tool. Also, extracurricular groups can use Facebook to help notify group members of educational activities and people outside of the group learn about things that these extracurricular activities are doing. It can also be helpful for parents to keep track of educational activities that will benefit their children if they attend. All of these things can be done on Facebook using the various tools offered.

My Video: Be Stronger, Live Longer

This was actually really fun to do. I had fun recording everyone and it was funny what their idea of "strength" is. I didn't have that much trouble with anything because I've used iMovie a lot, so it made it easy for me to know what I wanted to do with my video and where I wanted to go with it. I hope everyone likes it. You can also see it on youtube at http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=p-K7jhY4ceQ&feature=mfu_in_order&list=UL.

Haley B and My Video

This past week I have been finalizing my ideas for my video. Basically I'm doing exactly what I talked about in my previous post. I was going to try to think of a few different ideas, but I decided that what I came up with right away is my favorite idea and I think it will be pretty funny. I have just been planning how exactly I want to go about getting random people to be video taped for my video. I decided that I'll just walk around the mall one day and interview people, and walk around campus one day and get what students think. It should turn out pretty good. I just need to start recording.

Haley B and My Outline for Advocacy Video

The theme for my video will be, "Be Stronger, Live Longer." My idea at this point isn't very mapped out, it's just an idea. I was thinking about what people think of as being strong. Some people think of it as physical strength, having to do with muscles and how much you can lift in a weight room; other people see it as a wide range of many things in life. I think it would be cool to have a recording of me asking people (of all different ages) what being strong means to them and how someone becomes strong. Then have a rap up by a few professors on campus about what being strong would do for a better longer life in their opinion. I'll probably interview Dr. Z because it would be funny. All of the people that answer my question will only have a very short clip on the video, it will be rapid answers. That's basically what I've come up with and am working on make my plan more detailed.

Haley B and taching about priva-CY

This week we were supposed to teach someone else about the importance of privacy when using the internet. I taught my roommates, all three of them, about privacy on the internet. At first they didn't really take me seriously, kept making jokes (which were funny, dang it), and asked dumb questions, but after they calmed down we talked about privacy and ended up discussing what we would want our children to do if they were able to use the internet. We talked about how it would be really important to monitor our children when we have them, and make sure that they are safe. If that means not letting them have facebook or whatever the latest thing at the time is until we feel they're old enough and mature enough to be smart, then SO BE IT.

Haley B and making sub pages

This week I had a lot of fun working on my site for class. I did however run into some problems trying to figure out how to create a subpage. While working on it I asked my dear friend Sarah to show me what's up and she graciously showed me how to add subpages. I kind of felt dumb after I saw how simple it is to do. It's funny how you can stare at a screen for so long and not be able to figure out to just push the huge butt that says "add a page." It's good to have other people come in, who have a different perspective and see different things, to help when we need it.

Also, I finished my site so check it out!! https://sites.google.com/site/haleybennettclasssite/home

Haley B's problem encounters with making a website

This past week I didn't get enough time to work on my website. I have found that as I have gotten online more to try and figure things out I have begun to find myself understanding how to actually do the things that this class requires of me. This is such an amazement to me. I have always thought I was good with computers because I do just dink around and find my way around problems by clicking ever button I see. This didn't work so well for a bit while I was trying to figure out how to add sub pages to my website, but I ended up navigating my way to doing what I set out to do and had a little celebration on my own for around 2 seconds. It was a good day for overcoming my obstacles in website creation.
Check out what I've done so far (I'm not saying it's finished). https://sites.google.com/site/haleybennettclasssite/

Haley B and Copyright Laws

Copyright laws are obviously a good thing to have. Without copyright laws people that create different things would not get the credit they deserve, and everyone would just be able to take what is not rightfully their's. On the other hand, I think that there are a lot of things about copyright laws that are a bit much. Obviously as a kid my age I download and listen to a lot of music. I understand that artists deserve to get money back for the music they make, but I think it is a little out of hand how much money they must be getting because everyone is paying a dollar for their songs. I think that someone needs to find a happy middle ground where people can purchase music and share it with a certain amount of people so that both parties would be happy. It gets to be very spendy for students like me to pay a dollar for every song I buy and realize at the end of the year I bought over three hundred songs. That's one thing that makes me laugh about copyright laws and people trying to stop illegal downloading, obviously I'm going to download music for free if I can when I realize I'm wasting 300$ a year. That's outrageous that people have to spend that much to be in accordance with dumb copyright laws.

Haley B Talking About Effects of New Technolo-GY

A new piece of technology that will change learning and how we do school work is using Google Docs. In my experiences with this tool I have already found that it makes things such as group work, test reviewing with others, and sharing notes easy for everyone to use. In the case of test reviews I have found Google Docs to be extremely useful. In past classes when it came time for a test, a group of the students in my class would put together a Google Doc that everyone could contribute to which helped those that may have questions are certain parts and also allows everyone to come to a consensus on an answer so that they are using the best reviewing material they can get. I think changing technology is only going to make teaching and learning easier and more fun over time.

Haley B's Experiences with Technolo-GY!

In my MANY experiences with technology I've found that at first there may be times when I'm not exactly sure what to do, but am able to search the computer and find my way to my to my desired destination. Overall, I would have to give myself a 7 our of 10 on my technology abilities. By saying such, I think of my experiences with technology to be great!
